Matheson: Injury updates on Blue Jays Garcia, Bieber, Barger

Toronto Blue Jays reliever Yimi Garcia will pitch for the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons on Tuesday night as part of his rehab assignment according to Keegan Matheson of MLB.com.

Garcia has been recovering from elbow surgery. He last pitched for the Blue Jays on July 2, 2025 against the New York Yankees. He had a 3.86 ERA in 22 appearances with the Blue Jays in 2025.

Garcia has made six rehab appearances in 2026. In his most recent outing with the Buffalo Bisons on June 13, he gave up one run on two hits with one strikeout in one inning.

According to Matheson, Shane Bieber will start for the Bisons on Wednesday night as part of his rehab assignment. Bieber has not pitched for the Blue Jays since Game 7 of the 2025 World Series due to right elbow inflammation.

Bieber will aim for 75 pitches on Wednesday. He pitched five scoreless innings on 62 pitches in his most recent rehab appearance on June 11.

The Blue Jays acquired Bieber from the Cleveland Guardians during the 2025 trade deadline. He made seven starts for the Blue Jays in 2025, during which he posted a 3.57 ERA. He also started four games for the Blue Jays during the postseason.

Matheson also reported that Addison Barger has been hitting off a machine and throwing out to 150 feet. Barger has played nine games for the Blue Jays in 2026.

Barger has not played since May 9 against the Los Angeles Angels due to right elbow inflammation. It was his first game back in the Blue Jays’ lineup since April 5 against the Chicago White Sox when he suffered an ankle injury. In the game against the Angels, Barger threw out Jorge Soler at with a 101.2 mph throw from right field.

The Blue Jays sit third in the AL East with a 34-38 record.
