Flyers sign Ducks RFA Carlsson to five-year offer sheet at NHL-high $18M AAV

Published:

The Philadelphia Flyers have signed Anaheim Ducks centre Leo Carlsson to a five-year, $90 million offer sheet that carries an AAV of $18 million.

If Anaheim does not match, the Flyers will send their next four first-round picks as compensation.

The Ducks have seven days to match the offer sheet.

Whether ends up staying with Anaheim or moving to Philadelphia, the average annual value of $18 million will become the highest in the league, surpassing Kirill Kaprizov’s $17 million AAV with the Minnesota Wild.

TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger reports that the deal is heavily loaded in signing bonuses, and that close to $20 million will be paid when the contract is registered with the league.

Carlsson, 21, finished second in scoring with the Anaheim Ducks last season with 29 goals and 67 points in 70 games. He added four goals and 11 points in 12 playoff games before the Ducks were eliminated in the second round.

He helped lead the Ducks to their first playoff appearance since the 2017-18 campaign.

The 6-foot-3 centre is coming off his three-year, entry-level contract.

Drafted second overall by the Ducks in 2023, Carlsson has 61 goals and 141 points in 201 career games.

The Karlstad, Sweden, native represented his country at the 4 Nations Face-Off in 2025 in a third-place finish. He also represented his country at the 2023 World Hockey Championship in a sixth-place finish.
