The Calgary Flames added centre Jack Hextall with the 30th-overall pick in the NHL Draft on Friday.
Hextall, 18, spent the past two seasons with the Youngstown Phantoms of the USHL, and scored 20 goals and 58 points in 59 games with Youngstown this past season.
Hextall has already committed to play in the NCAA with the Michigan State Spartans in the upcoming season, and could be poised to join the Flames at a later time.
The Flames added defenceman Carson Carels with the sixth-overall pick earlier in Friday’s draft, so the addition of Hextall gives Calgary some talent in the pipeline on the blue line as well as the forwards group.
Jack Hextall is a distant cousin of former Vezina Trophy winner Ron Hextall, who is a member of the Flyers Hall of Fame.
