The Florida Panthers completed a trade with the Vegas Golden Knights on Monday to acquire goaltender Akira Schmid in exchange for a third-round pick in the 2028 NHL Draft, the team announced.
Schmid, 26, appeared in 34 games for the Golden Knights this past season, where he registered a 2.59 goals-against average and an .893 save percentage to go along with a 16-10-6 record.
The fifth-year goaltender spent the past two seasons with Vegas after starting his career with the New Jersey Devils.
Originally selected in the fifth round (136th overall) in the 2018 NHL Draft by the Devils, Schmid made his NHL debut three years later with New Jersey.
Over 82 career NHL games played, the native of Bern, Switzerland has a record of 32-28-10 to go with a 2.67 GAA and a .898 save percentage.
Schmid was a member of Switzerland’s roster at the men’s Olympics in February, where he played in three games.
