Florida Panthers veteran defenceman Seth Jones suffered a broken foot during Tuesday’s loss to the Montreal Canadiens, head coach Paul Maurice confirmed to the media on Thursday.

With just four games remaining in the regular season and the Panthers officially eliminated from playoff contention, Jones’ 2025-26 campaign has officially ended.

The Panthers are in the nation’s capital on Thursday to take on the playoff hopeful Ottawa Senators, a game viewers in the Sens region can watch at 7pm ET/4pm PT on TSN5, TSN.ca and the TSN App.

The 31-year-old has seven goals and 25 assists over 52 games this season, his first full season in Florida after the Panthers acquired him from the Chicago Blackhawks ahead of last year’s trade deadline.

Jones produced two goals and seven assists over 21 games after joining the Panthers to close last season before netting four goals and five assists over 23 playoff games, helping Florida capture their second straight Stanley Cup.

A native of Arlington, Texas, Jones is in the fourth season of an eight-year, $76 million contract, featuring an average annual value of $9.5 million.

The Panthers, who have been to three straight Stanley Cup finals, encountered numerous injuries this season, namely captain Aleksander Barkov, who suffered a season-ending knee injury during training camp in September.

Florida (37-37-4) is tied with the Toronto Maple Leafs for last in the Atlantic Division and will miss the postseason for the first time in six seasons.

Following their game against the Senators, the Panthers travel to Toronto for a game against the Maple Leafs on Saturday before closing their season at home against the New York Rangers on Monday and the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday.
