The Socceroos have qualified for a sixth consecutive World Cup and seventh in total but will be hoping to progress from the group stage in consecutive appearances for the first time. They will be delighted not to have faced a qualifying play-off as they did for 2022.

A 1-0 win against Denmark on MD3 in Qatar secured progression to the Round of 16 where they lost 2-1 to eventual winners Argentina.

Tony Popovic is the new man in charge having been appointed in September 2024 – he made one appearance for the Socceroos at the 2006 World Cup, starting the 2-0 group stage defeat v Brazil.
