Since lifting the trophy in 2014, the World Cup has not been a happy place for four-time winners Germany – they have failed to progress from their group at both finals since. Prior to 2018, they had never previously been knocked out in the first group stage.

The Hansi Flick era lasted just 25 matches before he was replaced by Julian Nagelsmann in 2023 – the former Bayern head coach could only steer Germany to the quarter-finals at their home Euros in 2024 but will be hoping to progress them beyond there next summer.
