A disappointing appearance in 2022 ended with Ghana finishing bottom of their group (beat Korea Republic either side of defeats to Portugal and Uruguay) and they have now failed to progress from the group stage at each of the last three major tournaments (1 World Cup, 2 AFCON).

The Black Stars lit-up the 2010 World Cup before agonisingly losing on penalties to Uruguay in the quarter-final and they will be hoping to repeat the positives of that appearance next year – they are coached once again by Otto Addo who led them in Qatar but left after the finals, only to be reappointed in March 2024. Having played at the 2006 World Cup, he is the first Ghanaian to play and coach the team at the tournament.
