Morocco made history in Qatar where they became the first African nation to reach the semi-finals. Having topped a group containing Canada, Croatia and Belgium they beat Spain and Portugal before losing to France in the final four and Croatia in the play-off.

Have qualified for three consecutive World Cups for the first time – their first three finals came at Mexico 1970, Mexico 1986 and USA 1994.

Appointed Walid Regragui as head coach just a few months prior to the 2022 finals following the departure of Vahid Halilhodzic who had navigated qualifying.
