Panama celebrates Panama

The ecstasy of qualification for a first ever World Cup in 2018 was slightly tainted by three defeats in Russia, including heavy losses against England and Belgium, but the Canal Men are back on the world stage following a dramatic final night in qualifying which saw them leapfrog Suriname to reach the finals.

Danish coach Thomas Christiansen was appointed in 2020 – despite missing out on qualification for Qatar, he led Panama to a runners-up spot in the 2023 Gold Cup and 2025 Nations League as well as a first ever unbeaten World Cup qualifying campaign.
