The Ottawa Redblacks have signed national kicker Brett Lauther to a one-year deal, the team announced on Friday.

The long-time Saskatchewan Roughriders placekicker and Truro, NS native was a CFL West All-Star after the 2018 season and is a two-time Dave Dryburgh Memorial Trophy winner for top scorer in the West Division.

Lauther was originally drafted by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats with the 53rd overall pick in the 2013 CFL Draft, and he appeared in four games with the team that year before he was jettisoned to the practice squad the following campaign.

Lauther would not return to the playing field until the 2018 season, when he was named the starting kicker for the Roughriders.

Since that 2018 campaign, Lauther has been the primary placekicker for Saskatchewan. Over 114 games, Lauther was a perfect 10-for-10 on game-winning field goal attempts, which ranks second in Roughriders franchise history.

Lauther helped the Roughriders win the Grey Cup in 2025, when he converted all three extra-point attempts and also knocked in a 48-yard field goal that pushed Saskatchewan’s lead to 25-7 in the third quarter.

For his career, the 35-year-old Lauther has converted 301-of-370 field goals, with a career-long of 59 yards.
