The Vancouver Canucks have agreed to a one-year, two-way contract with defenceman Cole Clayton, the team announced on Tuesday.
The signing marks the second addition in the past week to Vancouver’s blue line, after they added Jack Thompson on a one-year deal on Friday.
Clayton, 26, played in 32 games with the AHL’s Abbotsford Canucks this past season, where he recorded six assists. He also played 33 games with the AHL’s San Jose Barracuda in the 2025-26 campaign, with two goals and five points.
Clayton was originally signed by the Columbus Blue Jackets as an undrafted free agent on July 1, 2024 after four seasons with the WHL’s Medicine Hat Tigers.
In 289 career AHL games split between the Cleveland Monsters, Barracudas and Canucks, the Strathmore, Alb. native has 14 goals and 72 points.
The Canucks have the third-overall pick in next week’s NHL Draft, after finishing with a league-worst 25-49-8 this past season.
