Troy Stecher is sticking around with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The team announced a two-year, $2.7 million deal with the defenceman on Monday ahead of his unrestricted free agency.
Stecher, 31, was claimed off waivers by the Toronto Maple Leafs from the Edmonton Oilers on Nov. 15.
He had three goals and 14 points in 64 games split between the Oilers and Maple Leafs while averaging 19:11 of ice time.
The 5-foot-10, right-shot defenceman is coming off a two-year, $1.575 million contract that carried a cap hit of $787,500.
Originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Vancouver Canucks in 2016, Stecher has 25 goals and 131 points in 624 career games split between the Canucks, Detroit Red Wings, Los Angeles Kings, Arizona Coyotes, Calgary Flames, Oilers and Maple Leafs.
The Richmond, B.C., native has represented Canada twice at the World Hockey Championship, winning gold in 2021 and silver in 2019.
Maccelli not qualified
While Stecher is remaining in Toronto, Matias Maccelli’s time with the Leafs is over.
The winger was not given a qualifying offer by the team and will become an unrestricted free agent on Wednesday.
The team officially extended offers ahead of the 5pm ET deadline to forwards Nicholas Robertson, Jacob Quillan and Ryan Tverberg and defencemen William Villeneuve and the newly acquired Emil Andrae.
Maccelli, 25, was acquired by the Leafs in June of 2025 from the Utah Mammoth in exchange for a draft pick.
He had 14 goals and 39 points in 71 games with the Maple Leafs last season.
The 5-foot-11 winger is coming off a three-year, $10.275 million contract that carried a cap hit of $3.425 million.
Drafted 98th overall by the Coyotes in 2019, Maccelli has 51 goals and 169 points in 295 career games split between the Coyotes, Mammoth, and Maple Leafs.
The Turku, Finland native represented his country at the 2020 World Juniors in a fourth-place finish.
Along with Maccelli, defencemen Henry Thrun and John Prokop and forward Braeden Kressler were not qualified.
