Futbol is life for Dani Rojas and now it is for the actor who played him, as well.
The USL Championship’s El Paso Locomotive announced the signing of Ted Lasso star Cristo Fernandez. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Fernandez, 35, had been on trial with the team and appeared in a preseason match.
“Cristo is a great addition to our roster, adding another attacking threat to our forward line,” Locomotive manager Junior Gonzalez said in a statement. “His passion for the game and leadership qualities for our locker room allow us to continue growing the positive culture we strive for as a club.”
A native of Guadalajara, Fernandez had been a part of the Tecos academy as a teen, but abandoned football after a serious knee injury.
Along with his role as the flamboyant Mexican striker Rojas, Fernandez has also had roles in the Apple TV+ sitcom Acapulco, as well as the films Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Spider-Man: No Way Home and Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.
The Locomotive currently sits fourth in the Group B table on 14 points after nine matches. They return to action on May 27 with a USL Cup match against AV Alta.
