The San Jose Sharks made a pair of veteran additions to start off the first day of free agency, signing forward Mason Marchment and defenceman Jacob Trouba to long-term deals.
The Sharks started the day off by signing Marchment to a five-year, $35 million contract that carries a cap hit of $7 million.
Trouba’s deal is for four years with an AAV of $8.25 million.
Marchment, 31, finished last season with the Columbus Blue Jackets after he was acquired from the Seattle Kraken in exchange for two draft picks on Dec. 20.
He had 19 goals and 45 points in 68 games split between the Kraken and Blue Jackets last season.
The 6-foot-5 winger is coming off a four-year, $18 million contract that carried a cap hit of $4.5 million.
Originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2018, Marchment has 95 goals and 234 points in 370 career games split between the Maple Leafs, Florida Panthers, Dallas Stars, Kraken and Blue Jackets.
His best offensive season came during the 2023-24 campaign where he registered 22 goals and 53 points in 81 games as a member of the Stars.
Trouba, 32, recorded 10 goals and 35 points in 81 games with the Anaheim Ducks last season while averaging 22:50 of ice time. He added a goal in 12 playoff games while averaging 24:30 TOI as the Ducks bowed out in the second round.
The 6-foot-3, right-shot blueliner is coming off a seven-year, $56 million contract that carried a cap hit of $8 million.
Drafted ninth overall by the Winnipeg Jets in 2012, Trouba has 84 goals and 358 points in 906 career games split between the Jets, New York Rangers, and Ducks.
Trouba captained the Rangers for three seasons and won the Mark Messier Leadership Award in 2024.
The Rochester, N.Y., native represented the United States three times at the World Hockey Championship, taking home a bronze medal in 2013.
